Just three years after turning pro in September
2003, unbeaten hotshot Femi 'Fire' Fehintola is
anxiously awaiting his Nove 3 shot at British
Champion Carl Johanneson.
And trainer Richard Poxon admits that he's having
trouble holding the Bradford quicksilver back in the
gym, so 'up' for the British Title shot is Femi.
The 24-year-old 'Fire' Fehintola, now 14-0 (1KO),
admitted: "I'm always in the gym but Richard said
we're waiting on the date before we really start
hitting it. But I just want to get going full blast.
I mean, if you don't' get excited about fighting for
the British Title, what do you get excited about?"
Whenever it happens, the fight will be a classic
match-up between a boxer (Femi) and a brawler in the
defending champion.
Plus, there will be the added spice of both men
fighting for local bragging rights.
Fehintola explained: "He's from Bradford and I'm
from Leeds which are five, 10 minutes apart and if
we can get it on at a venue up here the atmosphere
will be absolutely electric.
"I've got friends who also go see him fight and some
of his friends come and see me fight. We live only a
few miles apart and it will be a great fight."
With Femi having fought twice this year already,
Poxon believes his silky smooth boxer with the
laddish personality is ready for the step up in
class.
Poxon said: "Femi has sparred with a lot of very
good fighters and he's handled some very good
fighters pretty easily. It is a step up, but I
wouldn't be putting Femi in there after 14 fights if
I didn't think he could win it."
