Roy Jones Jnr wants a rematch

Boxing legend Roy Jones Jnr wants a re-match with Clinton Woods after predicting the Sheffield fighter will make short work of Antonio Tarver in their clash on April 12th.

Jones beat Woods inside six rounds in 2002 for the undisputed light-heavyweight world title, but believes the Yorkshireman will be too tough for Tarver in the fifth defence of his IBF crown.

Jones said: “Clinton should win if he applies the pressure from early on. Tarver is essentially weak minded and he gets nervous. He is mentally not the strongest person in boxing and this will be to Woods’ advantage. I think Clinton will win and then he can fight me!”

Woods is itching for an all-British showdown with Joe Calzaghe, who takes on Bernard Hopkins on April 19th in Las Vegas.

But Woods is also keen to avenge his defeat to Jones and is convinced he is a far superior fighter now than when they met six years ago.

Woods said: “I would love to fight Roy Jones again and this time I would beat him. I’ve improved beyond all recognition. I avenged my defeat to Glencoffe Johnson and I would do the same to Jones.”

Woods-Tarver is on a world championship double bill with Johnson taking on unbeaten WBC champion Chad Dawson at the 21,000-capacity St Pete’s Forum in Tampa, Florida.
